A tankless installation costs more upfront than a standard tank replacement, because it usually involves gas line sizing, new venting, and sometimes an electrical circuit. What it returns is endless hot water and a unit that commonly lasts around 20 years against 8–12 for a tank. You get a firm flat-rate number after the gas line, venting path and existing setup are assessed — the honest answer is that a tankless quote given over the phone without seeing your gas line is not a real quote.

This is the question that matters most in Yavapai County, and the honest answer is: only if you treat the water. Hard water scales a tankless heat exchanger faster than it scales a tank, because the water is heated rapidly across a narrow passage. An untreated tankless unit in hard Prescott water will need descaling far more often and can fail early, which is how people end up disappointed by an expensive appliance.
